Berlin is my favourite German city and I can’t go there often enough – having family and great friends over there makes it even better.
I am lucky enough to have been there three times in the last twelve months and every time I go it is the perfect mixture of discovering new places and going back to old places that I love.
Whenever I go to Berlin I take my camera to snap a few pictures and although this won’t be a full on guide I just wanted to share some pictures with you today as well as telling you about a few places in Berlin that I love.
A great thing about going to Berlin on a regular basis is that it means that I am under no pressure to visit any tourist spots. I actually enjoy the “daily life” much more. Staying with a great friend means that we can also cook together. Perfect for shopping fresh ingredients is the Turkish Market in Berlin Neukölln. You can get all sorts of fresh food, Turkish delicacies and there are also various stalls that sell fabric.
After doing some food shopping at the Turkish Market there is the “Pavillon am Ufer” at the Maybachufer really close by. Especially in summer it is nice to sit outside. The homemade waffles and the homemade lemonade are a treat!
In a completely different part of Berlin, next to the Bahnhof Zoo you can find “Bikini Berlin” which is a mall with quite a few nice shops. What I especially love about it is that you can enjoy a coffee whilst watching the monkeys in the Zoo through a glass panel – this is great fun for kids as well as for adults :).
A Park that I have discovered last September is the Park am Gleisdreieck. Amongst paths for walking and cycling there is plenty of space for a relaxed break, there is a playground and everything is surrounded by a lovely urban atmosphere – it almost feels a little bit like journey to New York.
And…again: a completely different part of Berlin – I can highly recommend the weekly market on a Saturday morning at the Boxhagener Platz in Friedrichshain. Nice stalls, friendly people, great food – just look at that Raclette on the picture below. It is so delicious!
Finally I have one more recommendation for the perfect Sunday morning brunch: A coffeehouse called Zazza. It has two locations in Berlin, I only have been to the one in the Schönleinstraße so far and I love it. The breakfast is a feast with all sorts of treats, the atmosphere is great and the staff is super friendly.
So far so good…this was my journey through a few different parts of Berlin. I have many more spots that I love but these are the one’s I happened to take pictures off so that I could show them to you. When I go back I will take more pictures for a few more recommendations.
I hope you enjoyed the slightly random journey through Berlin :). Do you have a favourite city that you keep coming back to? And also, do you maybe have a few more must-sees or must-eats for Berlin? 🙂
